Concentric Medical Launches Two New Small Vessel Neurovascular Retrievers for Use in Stroke Patients

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Concentric Medical announces the commercial release of the Merci(R) L4 and K Mini Retrievers in the United States. These two new Retrievers are smaller than the existing Merci Retrievers on the market, and provide it’s customers with two more choices in their efforts to restore blood flow to ischemic stroke patients.

The Merci L4 Retriever joins the L family of retrievers, incorporating a 2.0 mm cylindrical helix with attached filaments. The filaments provide an additional mechanism for securing the clot during retrieval. The Merci K Mini Retriever further adds to the Concentric portfolio, introducing a unique non-filamented design with a 2.1 mm diameter. These new designs are targeted at smaller vessels than the existing Merci Retrievers on the market, and are available for shipment to qualified accounts immediately.

“The launch of these two new retrievers in the United States is further evidence of Concentric Medical’s leadership in developing new options for stroke patients”, said Gary Curtis, President and CEO of Concentric Medical. “These next-generation Merci Retrieval Systems demonstrate our dedication to continual innovation.”

The Merci Retriever is a “corkscrew-type” device that is delivered into the brain using standard catheterization techniques. A small puncture in the groin is used to introduce the Merci Retriever into an artery leading to the brain. Upon reaching the targeted area, the Merci Retriever is designed to restore blood flow by engaging, capturing and removing the blood clot. The Merci Retrieval Systems offer additional options for ischemic stroke patients, especially those who have “failed” intravenous clot dissolving drug therapy or who could not be treated within the three hour limit established for intravenous drug administration.
