PITTSBURGH, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Cohera Medical, Inc., a rapidly growing medical device company focused on the commercialization of novel surgical adhesives, announced today that it has won a Phase 1 SBIR Award for $180,000. The project will focus on the development of a sprayable formulation of their lead product TissuGlu(TM) for use in plastic surgery.
Seroma formation is among the most common post-surgical complications, occurring in up to 50% of certain surgical procedures. The long-term goal of the project is to create a strong, easy-to-use sprayable surgical adhesive to bond planar flaps of tissue together. This novel adhesive will reduce fluid accumulation after surgery by eliminating dead space in the wound and maintaining tissues in position for natural healing to occur.
“This a significant step forward in the development of our lead product TissuGlu(TM),” said Patrick Daly, President and CEO, Cohera Medical. “The National Institutes of Health have recognized the innovative nature of our technology and the significant medical need for a product of this kind.”
Dr. Eric Beckman, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder of Cohera Medical, will serve as the Principal Investigator on the study.
