Cleveland Clinic’s First Race To Solely Benefit Local Children With Cancer Set For August 19, 2006 At Jacob’s Field

CLEVELAND, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Littlest Heroes 1st Annual “Race for Children’s Sake” in honor, memory and support of Northeast Ohio children with cancer will begin and end at Jacob’s Field on Saturday, August 19, 2006 followed by a “Family First Celebration” consisting of a Ballpark Buffet Picnic, inflatables on Home Run Porch, Kids Playland, Build-a-Slider Kiosk, face painters, and much more! The event will feature a certified 5K Race/Walk and 1 mile Fun Walk, Honorary and Memorial ceremonies, and a post-race awards and sponsor presentation.

The Littlest Heroes is working in conjunction with Jeffrey Newbauer, a 22- year-old Mayfield Heights man living with cancer, for the design of the opening race ceremonies and event. Jeffrey will serve as the race spokesperson representing the Northeast Ohio children and families that proceeds will benefit. Please refer to www.jeffsballparktour.com for information on Jeffrey, his ongoing battle with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma (a rare, aggressive form of childhood cancer), his personal fundraising efforts conducted in our area, and his passion for baseball that greatly complements the event location. He is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at The Littlest Heroes Jacobs Field Night Out, August 25, 2006 when the Indians face the Detroit Tigers.

“We are honored to have Jeff play such an important role in our event with his strength, positive attitude, and courage depicting every child we serve. We’re very proud to unite local children and families who are or have experienced the many challenges of childhood cancer with our community. The event promises to be a true celebration of life, as well as a time for us to remember those children we have lost to childhood cancer and remain with us forever in spirit,” stated Blazine Monaco, The Littlest Heroes Executive Director.
