Cleveland Clinic Release: 24th Annual World Congress Of Endourology Comes To Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The 24th Annual World Congress of Endourology will be held Aug. 17-20, 2006 at the Intercontinental Hotel & MBNA Conference Center on Cleveland Clinic’s campus.

The prestigious international gathering, which takes place in the United States once every four years, is expected to draw more than 1,200 urologists from 60 countries. More than 1,500 scientific papers are slated for presentation. Former U.S. Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell, U.S. Army (Ret.), is scheduled to deliver the meeting’s keynote address.

“It is a great honor and privilege for us to have been selected to host this meeting,” said Inderbir S. Gill, M.D., President of the 2006 World Congress of Endourology and Vice Chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Glickman Urological Institute. “This meeting promises to be the most technologically- advanced discussion of minimally-invasive surgery in the field.”

The focus of the meeting will be cutting-edge advances in the minimally- invasive techniques used in laparoscopy (key-hole surgery), robotics, endourology, female urology, and the treatment of enlarged prostates and urologic cancers. Augmented virtual reality, a technology that allows a surgeon to superimpose a CT scan or MRI onto the surgical field for precise navigation, will receive emphasis.

Education sessions throughout the Congress will include live surgical modules, simulation and robotics exercises, lectures, debates, panel discussions, and virtual posters, a state-of-the art technology that allows the display and automatic rotation of abstract and presentation posters on giant plasma screens.
