Clear! Bill Says Defibrillator Users Can’t Get Sued

A bill passed the Iowa Senate today that would shield from civil liability anyone who uses an emergency medical device intended to restart the heart of a heart-attack victim. Senate File 505, which passed the House 99-0 Tuesday, passed the Senate 49-0 and now goes to Gov. Chet Culver’s office. The bill passed in the Senate without debate. According to the bill, anyone who assists in a cardiac emergency with an automated external defibrillator would be free from the threat of civil damages.
