Most people enjoy a hot cup of chocolate without necessarily knowing the benefits they derive from it; and while some others know that chocolate, derived from cocoa beans, is good for the health, they do not really know the main compounds providing the benefits to the body. But scientists now confirm this to be polyphenols.
A study published in the journal Heart reveals that cocoa reduces the risks of cardiovascular diseases and strokes, while those who stay away from eating chocolate tend to develop these illnesses; so you are advised to consume chocolates, not necessarily because of its flavor, but because your heart will benefit immensely from it.
“What we’re learning is that polyphenols…seem to improve the health of our blood vessels,” said Dariush Mozaffarian, dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
