CardiacAssist recently surpassed its 850th successful TandemHeart System procedure, and the recently introduced Escort Controller component is now available. The Escort Controller is one of three primary components of the TandemHeart PTVA System. Weighing only 21 pounds, it can be mounted at bedside, on an IV pole or on a table top. It is intended primarily for AC power use, but has enough battery back-up power for an hour of operation.

The TandemHeart System is designed to be used as an extracorporeal circulatory support system for procedures not requiring complete cardiopulmonary bypass. The device has received FDA 510(k) clearance for use for up to six hours and is the only FDA approved device of its kind in the U.S.

The TandemHeart System is fully reimbursed by Medicare under existing DRG codes. The device can be placed rapidly in the cath lab or operating room, providing effective, reliable, temporary circulatory support. To date, the TandemHeart System has been used in 28 countries at 100 different facilities by 140 different physicians.
