PITTSBURGH, June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- CardiacAssist, Inc., announced that it has placed the TandemHeart(R) PTVA(R) System at three new medical centers. More than 100 hospitals across the U.S. and more than 120 worldwide now use the TandemHeart System for extracorporeal support.
The three new CardiacAssist Centers of Excellence are:

"We're pleased to have such prestigious cardiac care facilities join our centers of excellence that are now using the TandemHeart System," said Michael Garippa, president and CEO of CardiacAssist. The TandemHeart System is designed to be used as an extracorporeal circulatory support system for procedures not requiring complete cardiopulmonary bypass. The device has received FDA 510(k) clearance for use for up to six hours and is the only FDA approved device of its kind in the U.S.
The TandemHeart System is fully reimbursed by Medicare under existing DRG codes.
