New drugs for multiple sclerosis could be on the way, now that a landmark study has given scientists an unprecedented glimpse into the disease’s genetic underpinnings. In the largest gene study of multiple sclerosis ever, scientists compared DNA from nearly 10,000 people with multiple MS, with DNA from more than 17,000 unrelated, healthy individuals. Fatigue? Blurry Vision? Could You Have Multiple Sclerosis? The scientist successfully confirmed 23 previously known genetic links and identified 29 new ones, in addition to five strongly suspected genes that contribute to MS.
