Local agriculture giants aren’t commenting on Monsanto’s decision to vacate Research Triangle Park, but Bayer CropScience, BASF, Syngenta and Novozymes are, without a doubt, watching the headlines.
That’s because the 50 jobs expected to be eliminated when the facility shutters may have exactly the qualifications they each look for as they grow. And then there’s that 122,000-square-foot research facility Monsanto is leaving behind. While the companies themselves have no comment on whether they’re looking at the real estate, Monsanto has been on the record with its pledge to help find a new tenant: “We remain committed to working with site management so that the facility remains a part of the community for years to come,” Monsanto site lead Steve Screen said earlier this week.
