IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BIOLASE Technology, Inc. , a medical technology company that develops, manufactures and markets lasers and related products focused on technologies for improved applications and procedures in dentistry and medicine, announced today that it has recently signed an agreement with the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine to integrate Waterlase dentistry into its course curriculum. The agreement is another important milestone in the BIOLASE strategy to work closely with leading dental schools to expand the application of Waterlase dentistry through teaching and research programs.
“Clinical dentistry is constantly improving, due in large part to advances in technology,” noted Dr. Ira Lamster, dean of the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. “It is essential for students in training to be familiar with the latest clinical advances. The use of lasers and laser technology is one such advance, and we greatly appreciate that BIOLASE is working with the College of Dental Medicine to introduce their devices into the dental school curriculum. Dr. Shan Lal is responsible for this program, and he brings both passion and experience to this role.”
The BIOLASE Waterlase system uses a combination of YSGG laser energy and water, a process called HydroPhotonics, to perform many traditional dental procedures with less anesthesia. Recent clinical trials concluded that Waterlase significantly improves patients’ comfort in the dentist’s chair, noting that 98.5% of patients treated with the Waterlase system reported no discomfort during the procedure.
