Biocom California Appoints New Members to Its Board of Directors and Board of Governors

Biocom California, the association representing the California life science industry, today announced that it has added Amy Butler, Ph.D., president of Biosciences at Thermo Fisher Scientific, to its board of directors and has appointed David H. Crean, Ph.D., managing partner of Coast Bioventures LLC, to its board of governors.

SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES & SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Biocom California, the association representing the California life science industry, today announced that it has added Amy Butler, Ph.D., president of Biosciences at Thermo Fisher Scientific, to its board of directors and has appointed David H. Crean, Ph.D., managing partner of Coast Bioventures LLC, to its board of governors.

Dr. Butler is the president of Biosciences at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where she has led businesses focused on delivering innovative products and services that support customers in cell and gene therapy, nucleic acid therapeutics, synthetic biology and gene expression profiling, among others. During her 17 years at the company, she has also held leadership roles overseeing Marketing & e-Business and Global Customer Care. She also served as an engagement manager with McKinsey & Co., where she worked predominantly with large pharmaceutical companies on R&D, sales and marketing strategies. Prior to that, Dr. Butler was a developmental neuroscientist at the Salk Institute. She also sits on the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine board of directors.

Dr. Crean has more than 25 years of buy-and sell-side expertise of M&A, partnering and investments within life sciences and healthcare working within strategic biopharma companies, private equity, investment banking and venture capital. He is currently the managing general partner of Coast Bioventures LLC, an emerging life sciences-focused investment fund. In parallel to Coast, he is a venture partner for Suncoast Venture Partners and a limited partner with Mesa Verde Venture Partners, two life sciences funds focused on incubator through early growth-stage companies. Prior to his leadership in venture capital, he was an investment banker and M&A strategic advisor with Objective Capital and Cardiff Advisory. Dr. Crean currently serves in leading boards of director roles for Histogen, Inc., Phoenix Molecular Designs and others. Dr. Crean is also the chairman of the Alzheimer’s Association of San Diego and an active member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), where he served as president for the past two years. He chairs the Biocom California Capital Development Committee.
