WEST LAFAYETTE, IN--(Marketwire - November 21, 2011) - BASi (Bioanalytical Systems Inc.) (NASDAQ: BASI) announced plans to open a health and wellness clinic for its employees, dependents and retirees in the Purdue Research Park of West Lafayette. The 1,800 square-foot facility will include three exam rooms, a laboratory and a pharmacy.
“One of our greatest challenges is to continue to find and maintain low-cost solutions for healthcare coverage, while providing quality, affordable care for our employees and dependents,” said Lina Reeves-Kerner, BASi senior vice president of human resources. “We believe employees and the company will save money, as well as time driving across town to appointments.”
The facility will be managed by WeCare TLC, a Florida-based company, specializing in the development and management of onsite clinics for small and midsized businesses and governmental organizations. WeCare already operates clinics at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Tippecanoe County Government and Oerlikon Fairfield.
Initially, the clinic will be open three days a week and staffed with a physician, nurse and medical technician.
“Our goal is for the clinic to be open full-time and make it available for employees from other businesses in West Lafayette,” said Reeves-Kerner.
This is a significant investment for BASi, but the company expects to recoup those costs in expected savings in healthcare expenses in the first year.
The focus of the clinic is preventative medicine and fitness. Services provided at the site include occupational physicals, drug testing, disease management, health risk appraisals and life style coaching.
BASi has approximately 150 employees at its corporate headquarters in West Lafayette. Employees and their dependents can use the clinic at no cost. Discounts for pharmaceutical drugs and lab work also will be offered.
Employees may continue to choose their own healthcare providers as their current coverage allows.
Demolition of the walls began today, November 21, 2011. Employees put on Kettlelhut Construction hard hats, grabbed hammers and helped knock down some walls.
The clinic is expected to open in January 2012.
