Zbig Lukomski Selected as Facilities Manager for The Jackson Laboratory Genomic Medicine

Farmington, Conn.—The Jackson Laboratory has hired Zbig Lukomski, an experienced facilities management and engineering professional, to oversee physical plant and equipment operations at its new genomics research center in Farmington, Conn.

As facilities manager for The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, Lukomski will have input during the construction phase of the new 189,000-square-foot facility that will be built on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center. Groundbreaking is scheduled to begin in January 2013, and the facility will be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2014.

Lukomski also will be responsible for some aspects of facilities management in the temporary spaces at UCHC currently occupied by scientists and administrators at JAX Genomic Medicine. Those include administrative and computational areas in the Administrative Services Building as well as wet-lab space in the Cell and Genome Sciences Building.

Lukomski is a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut with a background in both civil and mechanical engineering. He has intensive experience in managing health care facilities, including more than 20 years as the assistant director of plant operations and management at New Milford Hospital in Connecticut.

He holds a master’s degree in civil engineering and construction from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wroclaw, Poland, as well as an associate’s degree in aircraft hydraulics and pneumatics. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the New England Healthcare Engineers Society.

Lukomski will start work Dec. 10 and will report to the Laboratory’s Senior Director of Facilities Services, John “Fitz” Fitzpatrick.

Lukomski was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States in 1983. He has been a U.S. citizen since 1986 and also retains his Polish citizenship. He and his wife live in Litchfield, Conn. They enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, bicycling and downhill skiing and also are avid ballroom dancers.
