Temecula, California, April 13, 2010 - Xona Microfluidics, LLC, a California company with a leading platform for neuronal research solutions, announced today a long-term supply agreement with Millipore, Billerica, MA, for its AXIS Axonal Isolation devices.
Traditional neuronal outgrowth experiments typically result in random, overlapping neurite extensions. This hinders the ability of scientists to determine the specific roles of axons, dendrites and somas in neuron differentiation and growth AXIS Axon Isolation Devices are a fast, specialized method for spatially isolating and studying individual neurites and their function. The devices allow culture, regulation, and directional differentiation of neuronal cells via a system of growth chambers and interconnected channels. AXIS devices physically isolate developing neurites from each other and their respective neural cell bodies.
“We are very pleased to be working with Millipore on commercialization of the AXIS product,” said Joseph Harris, Manager of Xona. “Millipore now offers the most advanced tool for the isolation, visualization, and characterization of neurite outgrowth.”
Millipore will distribute the devices as part of its industry leading portfolio of antibodies, kits, and other devices for neurobiological research.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
About Xona Microfluidics, LLC.
Xona specializes in providing researchers with microfluidic platforms for Neuroscience research. Xona’s main product line consists of neuronal culturing devices that have either two or three compartments, connected by small microgroove barriers. The hydrostatic pressure between the chambers allows researchers to fluidically isolate each compartment. These significant advances have been incorporated into all Xona products, bringing important new tools to researchers. Please visit us at www.xonamicrofluidics.com
