CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Wellogic, a healthcare information technology company, and Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA), a not- for-profit, consumer-governed care delivery system for Massachusetts elders and others of all ages with complex healthcare needs, today announced that CCA has selected Wellogic to provide the technology platform to support its community-based, collaborative, capitated model of healthcare delivery. The organizations have signed a multi-year contract to implement the Wellogic Consult healthcare portal solution for all CCA-affiliated locations throughout Massachusetts.
CCA has launched a strategic initiative to improve the quality and manage the cost of care for Massachusetts elders and special needs patients-those who receive poor yet expensive care in traditional delivery systems. The success of CCA’s capitated model is based on the premise that a true partnership between those receiving care and those providing and managing care is the most effective strategy to maximize autonomy, independence and function for patients, as well as to reduce secondary medical complications, hospitalizations and double-digit annual increases in costs. The Wellogic Consult solution will enable the medical records of CCA’s members to be utilized by clinicians and staff at any of the organization’s growing number of care delivery sites across the care continuum, from the home to the hospital. Consult will also allow CCA to implement and monitor adherence to its preferred practice standards across these locations.
“We are very excited about this new relationship,” said Robert Master, MD, CCA President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our collaboration with Wellogic will allow us to bring to community-based safety net providers the kind of superb technology and information support that is only available today in top of the line medical centers. We are very proud of that.”
Wellogic Consult is an award-winning Web-based healthcare portal, or clinician desktop, that provides clinicians and their staff secure access to patient medical records across multiple information technology systems and organizations. Features of the single sign-on solution include medical records browsing and management, rules driven alerts, secure messaging, transcription review and e-signature, reference content and more.
Consult will be provided to CCA users on an ASP-hosted basis; Wellogic will provide and maintain the technical infrastructure to run the application, making it available to a virtually unlimited number of users throughout Massachusetts. The application will enable physicians, nurses and other care team members to take full advantage of each patient’s full medical record, creating context and continuity across all healthcare services delivered in all CCA venues. It will also enable CCA’s clinical management team to describe and deploy standardized care practices across hundreds of practice styles used by healthcare providers.
“There are many organizations attempting to build what we would describe as a community model for healthcare information delivery that places the patient at the core,” said Wellogic President and CEO Sumit Nagpal. “Wellogic is positioned to implement such solutions, given our demonstrated experience in unifying clinical information and workflows within and between organizations, and our enterprise-class solutions that are designed to scale to regional and national level deployments. We are fortunate to be given the opportunity to employ this capability to make the community model vision a reality, and we are honored to have such a visionary group as CCA to do it with.”
