SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vital Connect’s FDA-cleared wearable biosensor, HealthPatch® MD, was used in a prototype expansion of Philips’ FDA-cleared remote monitoring system. This prototype incorporates Vital Connect’s biosensor in an application developed by Philips and Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center to manage patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
According to the World Health Organization, COPD is the third leading cause of death in the US. COPD patients will wear the HealthPatch® MD which captures and transmits continuous health data from patients to Philips’ eCareCompanion application on their mobile devices. The data is then transmitted wirelessly to Philips’ secure, cloud-based HealthSuite Digital Platform, where clinicians can access real-time and historical data using Philips’ eCareCoordinator application to gain a more comprehensive view of a patient’s condition when he/she has returned home after receiving hospital care.
