Technology Council Of Maryland’s 2004 BioForum A Great Success

ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology Council of Maryland’s (TCM) 10th Anniversary BioForum 2004 -- Crossing the Biotech Chasm, drew close to 400 registrants for the high-level biotech conference and showcase. The new North Marriott Bethesda Hotel and Conference Center was the setting yesterday for the captivating lectures, intense networking, and company collaborations and exhibits.

“The Annual event aspires to bring together biotechnology and business in one place,” said Chris Ward, Director, TCM’s Maryland BioAlliance. “The networking and the connections that were formed, are what makes this event a success.”

The Forum was opened by Soren F. Andersen, MA Law, MBA, Assistant Vice President, Discovery Strategy and Portfolio Management, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. He spoke about Wyeth’s perspective on partnering with “Big Pharma”. He outlined the current areas of focus for the Wyeth research portfolio and provided an insight into the future therapeutic interests of his company. The audience of Biotech executives, scientists and researchers from industry, academia and federal laboratories learned what it takes to be successful in getting the attention of big pharma and what their companies need to do to create an attractive package for a successful partnership.

The BioForum also hosted renowned speakers from a wide range of scientific backgrounds, including presentations on the topics of Biodefence and Emerging Infectious Disease, Future Trends like Nano-Technology and a Venture Funding Panel. More than 30 expert speakers gave presentations to the attendees from both the scientific and business community. There were also 43 different companies exhibiting at the conference; exhibit traffic was high and the feedback was very positive.

Edward M. Rudnic, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO of Advancis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and Chairman of the TCM’s BioAlliance announced yesterday the details regarding the jointly-hosted regional collaborative event for the bioscience industry and investor community, Mid-Atlantic Bio 2005: The Conference for Industry & Investors. TCM, Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA), the Virginia Biotechnology Association (VaBIO), and MdBio will host the event on October 26 - 27, 2005 at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC.

The event will combine components of an investor conference and regional industry convention all under one roof.
