DETROIT, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- St. John Health unveiled a vision today for the dramatic transformation of the St. John NorthEast Hospital campus into Conner Creek Village, A Partnership for Healthy Lives -- a vibrant new healthy community campus providing access to job training, career development, health care and housing to the greater Detroit area.
The vision for Conner Creek Village is the result of more than 125 in- depth interviews of community and spiritual leaders, government officials and civic activists of the neighborhood at East Outer Drive and Van Dyke in Detroit. St. John Health and Dynamis, a health care consultancy, conducted the interviews during the past six months.
"Together with our partners in Conner Creek Village, St. John Health is offering the greater Detroit community a prototype for 21st Century health care," said Elliot Joseph, president and CEO of St. John Health. "Conner Creek Village is a true partnership for healthy lives. It will transform the campus of NorthEast Hospital to concentrate on primary care and chronic disease management, while also offering to the community vital social services, job training and residential opportunities."
St. John Health will be announcing several of its partner organizations over the coming months. Many projects integral to Conner Creek Village are near finalization. When completed, these programs will result in a community that addresses the economic, educational, health and social support needs of the community.
A Long-Term Acute Care Hospital is expected to relocate to Conner Creek Village this fall, occupying two patient floors for a total of 35,000 square feet; pending state approval, which is expected by the end of April.
St. John Eastwood Clinic, a behavioral and substance abuse facility in Detroit, will relocate its office to the Village in summer 2004, occupying 11,000 square feet.
Through a partnership with a local community development organization, ground is expected to be broken in late summer on the first of a three-phase, 100-unit independent living development for seniors and 30 townhouses that will occupy 50 percent of the unoccupied land on the Conner Creek Village campus.
St. John Health and Advantage Health expect notification in the near future on their application to develop a 25,000 square-foot Federally Qualified Health Center in Conner Creek Village.
St. John Health is in discussions with a health provider to locate a 25,000 square-foot primary health center at Conner Creek Village.
Very promising discussions are underway with a local university to locate a school of nursing and other health education programs in 11,000 square feet at Conner Creek Village.
Other programs and services being explored include the development of a community center to provide a safe environment for athletics, community education programs and events; a day care center; the addition of greenery to create a park-like environment and other partnerships to enhance programs and services in the community.
