DALY CITY, Calif., July 1 /PRNewswire/ --

What: Seton Medical Center Workers Rally for Quality Care, Jobs When: July 1st, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Where: Seton Medical Center 1900 Sullivan Ave. Daly City

On Thursday, July 1st, Seton Medical Center hospital workers and patient care advocates will call upon hospital management, the Daughters of Charity, to institute the same patient care and job standards at their facility as have been put into place at Kaiser and Catholic Healthcare West’s California hospitals. Workers from St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, Seton Medical Center in Daly City and Seton Coastside in Moss Beach will take time out at their respective worksites to rally for quality patient care and jobs at Daughters of Charity facilities.

California hospitals have been plagued with ongoing problems such as understaffing, high turnover and difficulties recruiting and retaining qualified staff. In order to address these issues, other regional hospital corporations such as Catholic Healthcare West and Kaiser Permanente have adopted a set of common-sense solutions that include an education and training fund for hospital employees, improved retirement benefits and other important issues that would improve the quality of patient care and jobs at California hospitals.

“If the Daughters of Charity want their hospitals to be able to stay competitive in Northern California, they need to make the necessary changes to assure proper staffing is on hand to provide quality patient care,” said Radiology Technologist Dan Pleasant. “CHW and Kaiser Permanente have made quality job standards and patient care their top priority -- the Daughters of Charity should follow their lead and provide a contract that offers similar job standards so that we can improve our recruitment and retention of quality staff.”
