Schneider Children’s Medical Centre Purchase Olympus Corporation AU680 Clinical Chemistry Analyser

Hamburg, 8th September 2008 – Schneider Children's Medical Centre of Israel, the only paediatric care hospital of its kind in the Middle East providing care exclusively to children and adolescents from around the world, has recently purchased an Olympus AU680 clinical chemistry analyser. The analyser was selected by the world renowned hospital due to its high sensitivity and low blood sample volume that will minimise the amount of blood needed to be taken from very young babies and children.

Dedicated to saving children’s lives, the Schneider Children's ensures medical excellence is achieved in all areas by adopting world class standards of hospital professionalism. Consequently, the hospital's biochemistry laboratory has sought to install an Olympus AU680, the latest member of the AU clinical chemistry family to be introduced by Olympus Life Science Europa GmbH.

Manager and founder of the Schneider Children's multi-disciplinary laboratory, Dr. Yaffa Aurbach, explains why they selected the AU680, "Due to the variety of tests that can be performed on the AU680, including: Substrates, Enzymes, Specific proteins, TDM and Immunoassays, it will complete 80% of our required tests. Additionally, since the analyser requires very low sample volumes, this means that Schneider Children's doctors will take a minimal blood sample from preterm infants, neonates and children.”

“I envision the AU680 serving various goals of the multi-disciplinary laboratory, such as strict precision (as manifested by highest international quality control standards), high sensitivity (extremely important in infants' values) and ability to provide rapid answers (crucial for supporting complicated operations and intensive care units)," Dr Aurbach added.

By installing the Olympus AU680, Schneider Children’s aims to set new standards in paediatric blood sample taking and analysis. This, in addition to the hospital's pioneering spirit, quality and dedication of its staff, supporters and volunteers, will ensure that Schneider Children’s will continue to lead the way in setting new standards in paediatric protocol. Ultimately this will maintain its global recognition as one of the foremost paediatric institutions in the world.

Schneider Children's Medical Centre of Israel is the only comprehensive, highly specialised care hospital of its kind in the country and in the Middle East, dedicated exclusively to the well-being of all children and adolescents. The unique centre also receives referrals from many countries around the world, thus fulfilling its mandate to serve as a "bridge to peace" in the region. One of Schneider Children's underlying principles is that the child is paramount, and equal treatment is accorded to every child in need, irrespective of nationality, race or religion.
