Quintiles Transnational Corp. Named to Computerworld Magazine’s ‘100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology’ List Only Major CRO in 2008 Rankings

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintiles Transnational Corp. has been named to Computerworld magazine’s 2008 list of the “100 Best Places to Work in IT.” Each year, the magazine publishes the results of its Best Places to Work in IT survey recognizing the top 100 companies in the United States that offer their IT staff a challenging and satisfying work environment.

Quintiles enters the Computerworld 100 Best Places list at number 37, the first time the company has made the annual ranking. Quintiles is the only major contract research organization (CRO) in the 2008 report and is one of only three North Carolina-based companies on this year’s list.

“Needless to say, we are very gratified by this honor,” says Quintiles Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer Bill Deam. “It is concrete evidence that our efforts to make Quintiles an attractive destination for the best IT professionals in the business are paying off.

“I believe the best and brightest in the IT field are attracted to the fact that we are willing to embrace new technologies and try new approaches in order to meet the growing demand for our services,” Deam concludes.

Quintiles Chief Technology Officer Richard Thomas says culture is a key driver for the company’s IT endeavors. “Our success is based on the performance driven, yet innovative and customer-centric culture that we have created,” Thomas explains. “The team understands that they can and do make a difference. This award is tremendous recognition for the talent, passion and commitment each and every one in the group brings. We have something very special here.”

According to Computerworld, more than 31,000 IT professionals from the 100 company finalists responded to its comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.

“The competitive edge sought by the best and smartest companies is no longer information technology itself,” said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. “After all, IT has permeated the business processes of almost every department of virtually every enterprise. The new competitive edge is finding and retaining the very best people to chart and implement your IT strategy.”

The Computerworld annual report takes into consideration average salary and bonus increases, the percentage of IT employees receiving promotions, IT staff turnover rates, training and development opportunities and the percentage of women and minorities in IT staff and management positions for US-based companies.

Quintiles’ Profile in the Survey

In its profile of Quintiles’ IT organization, under the heading of “Why You Want to Work There,” the Computerworld 100 Best Places story reports that Quintiles had (in 2007) over “600 IT professionals working in 27 countries, with all staff reporting into functional units with global responsibility.”

“From these large functional teams, smaller project teams that include regionally diverse IT professionals are frequently formed. This team-oriented environment and global interaction emphasize professional accountability, while the exposure and regional dependencies encourage personal growth and cultural awareness,” the report says.

Quintiles is Recruiting IT Professionals

To support Quintiles’ double-digit growth, the company is looking for all levels of technology professionals to join its high-growth environment and “Work Worth Doing” culture. Quintiles’ IT organization has added many positions across all major sites and is aggressively recruiting for a significant number of global and US roles.
