PLANO, Texas and PHILADELPHIA, May 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perot Systems Corporation , a worldwide provider of information technology services and business solutions, and population health and productivity solutions provider I-trax, Inc. have announced the signing of a strategic alliance to offer population healthcare management services to payer organizations, including those using Perot Systems' leading DIAMOND(R) core administrative system platform.
The DIAMOND system and I-trax solution will enable health plans to provide their members and insured dependents with the information, programs, and support to sustain and improve their health in ways previously viewed as difficult, inconvenient, or even impossible. In addition to helping payers more actively participate in healthcare services for their membership, this new service will allow payers to gain control of their medical loss ratio and drive significant savings through enhanced care management.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to work with I-trax to create what we believe to be the most comprehensive and effective consumer healthcare management service in the industry today. The combination of the DIAMOND platform with I-trax functionality and technology will produce a powerful information and transaction system to lead the emerging consumer healthcare management field. Our alliance with I-trax will enable us to provide a full- spectrum solution that serves the wellness and health promotion needs of a health plan's membership, as well as the high-touch disease state management programs required to control rising medical costs," said Richard M. Pico, Ph.D., M.D., Perot Systems Healthcare and chief medical and technology officer.
"The future of consumer healthcare management will be based on sophisticated statistical modelling of medical data to understand the current and longitudinal health and wellness needs of a population of members or patients. Applying automation, Internet portal connectivity, and proven prevention and chronic care programs to identified groups of members or patients will result in a more informed and healthier society," added Dr. Pico.
Thomas Lundquist, M.D., MMM, I-trax executive vice president and chief medical officer, added, "At I-trax, we are truly focused on providing solutions that address both the short-term and long-term aspects of health management and the resulting sustained cost controls. I-trax is committed to changing the face of disease management through our passionate belief that our fundamental goal is to treat people, not diseases. These are exciting times in the healthcare industry with enormous challenges, and we believe the rewards of these efforts will improve people's lives."
I-trax's personalized health management and disease interventions include intensive programs for individuals who suffer from, or are at high risk for, active or chronic disease and tailored programs for individuals who are at low risk. Depending on the individual's level of risk, custom tailored interventions include self-help programs, which are available through the Internet, or person-assisted programs administered through I-trax's Care Communications Center, which is staffed by trained nurses and other health professionals 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
I-trax's comprehensive solutions for focused disease intervention and life-style management include programs for asthma, cancer management, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, low back pain and more. In addition, I-trax offers programs to help individuals improve their health through smoking cessation, weight management, exercise and other behavioral changes.
Perot Systems and I-trax are sponsoring the Disease Management (DM) track at the National Managed Health Care Congress. The track will focus on the effectiveness of DM programs, incentives for patient adherence, and technology advancements. The track will be held on May 6 at 11:45 a.m. EDT at NMHCC in the Washington DC convention center.
