WAUKESHA, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin (OAW) has completed over 30 procedures with the Navio® orthopedic surgical system to help surgeons perform precise and accurate partial knee replacement surgeries. With the Navio system, OAW is able to offer their patients one of the most advanced surgical technologies in Wisconsin.
“The robotics-assisted Navio system has greatly improved our ability to accurately restore more normal joint function, while eliminating painful arthritic joint surfaces”
The Navio® Surgical System provides robotic assistance through an advanced computer program that relays precise information about the patient’s knee to a robotic tool to aid the surgeon during partial knee replacement surgery. By collecting patient-specific information, boundaries are established for the robotic handpiece allowing the surgeon can remove the damaged surfaces of the patient’s knee, balance their joint, and position the implant with great precision.
“The robotics-assisted Navio system has greatly improved our ability to accurately restore more normal joint function, while eliminating painful arthritic joint surfaces,” said Dr. Holub, Orthopaedic Surgeon at OAW.
With no pre-operative CT-scan required, Navio patients receive the benefits of robotic assistance without additional time spent for pre-operative procedures. Instead, the surgeon collects anatomical data during the procedure to build a 3D model of the patient’s knee. This information helps the surgeon place the implant and balance the knee’s ligaments for optimal alignment and a well-balanced knee.
“Partial knee replacements are a minimally invasive surgery that allows patients to have less pain and swelling post-operatively than traditional total joint replacement methods,” said Dr. Holub. “There is typically a more rapid recovery and less down time from work and recreational activities.”
The Blue Belt Technologies Navio Surgical System will be used in many of the partial knee replacement procedures performed each year at OAW.
