MD&DI Magazine Names To Its ’50 Companies To Watch’ List

PITTSBURGH, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- CardiacAssist, Inc., a Pittsburgh- based medical device company that develops, manufactures and markets cardiac assist devices, has been named to Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry (MD&DI) Magazine’s “50 Companies To Watch.”

“It’s a privilege to be named to this prestigious list of medical device companies by MD&DI magazine,” said Michael Garippa, CEO of CardiacAssist. “It is certainly rewarding to have our pioneering efforts in the treatment of acute heart failure recognized by this industry leading publication.”

CardiacAssist’s TandemHeart PTVA System is the only FDA-approved percutaneous extracorporeal circulatory support system. The device rests on the thigh and pumps blood to and from a patient’s heart using his or her own veins and arteries. In the June 2006 issue of MD&DI magazine, the editors described the novel characteristics and function of the TandemHeart System:

“Significant is how fast and efficiently it can help heart patients. The TandemHeart System can be implemented within 30 minutes and can circulate up to 5 L/min of blood to the patient.”

The TandemHeart System is attached percutaneously with a transseptal puncture via the femoral vein. It has been reported that it has been used during high-risk procedures and all kinds of cardiac interventions.

In making the announcement, MD&DI magazine said the companies named to the list “have formidable track records of success, or the potential for it.” The magazine also noted that the list was comprised of companies “that have been influential enough to reshape an entire sector and companies that have the potential to do so.”
