ROUEN, France, May 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Interactive Biosoftware (IBS), the creator of the Alamut Software Suite, has signed a contract with the Sanger Institute in the UK allowing them to provide Alamut users with COSMIC data free of charge.
In March 2015 the COSMIC (Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer) team implemented a new licensing strategy (see http://cancer.sanger.ac.uk/cosmic/license), introducing a fee for commercial use. Although COSMIC data remains free of charge to the academic and non-profit research community, this new strategy would have resulted in the removal of COSMIC data from the Alamut Software Suite.
The contract between IBS and the Sanger Institute allows Alamut users to access COSMIC data for free and without any additional subscription. Moreover, IBS supports the approach of the Sanger Institute to allow them to continue delivering the latest findings in cancer genetics.
COSMIC v75 is now available in Alamut Visual, the decision-support software application with easy-to-use graphical user interface, and in Alamut Batch, the Suite's variant annotation solution.
About the Alamut Software Suite:
Alamut Visual is decision-support software that integrates genetic information from different sources in one convenient environment to describe variants using HGVS nomenclature and help interpret their pathogenic status. Dedicated to mutation diagnostics, it is used by clinical and research molecular laboratories. Alamut Visual enables researchers to access data without in-house bioinformatics. The data is curated and reliable, and feedback shows that it increases users' confidence in their reports. Alamut Visual is the software of choice for leading university medical centers, hospitals and private human genome laboratories. It is used by over 450 entities in more than 45 countries.
Alamut Batch is high-throughput annotation software for NGS analysis. Designed for intensive variant analysis workflows, it enriches raw NGS variants with dozens of attributes including effects on human genes, detailed SNP information, and missense and splicing predictions. Rated as one of the most comprehensive annotation tools by client labs, Alamut Batch is powerful, efficient and the industry leader in splicing predictions with a fast and easy installation process.
About Interactive Biosoftware:
IBS, the software company located in France, offers a complete solution to the tasks of variant annotation, filtration, interpretation and reporting. IBS is changing genetic diagnostics and research as we know it by simplifying the mutation interpretation process, while saving scientists time, improving outcome quality and enhancing productivity.
