HipSaver Introduces First Hip Protector Designed For Multi-Patient Use

CANTON, Mass., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- HipSaver(R), the leading soft hip protector manufacturer introduces HipSaver(R) Interim, the first non patient- specific hip protector designed for short term use. Most hip protectors, including HipSaver incorporate protective pads into underwear to protect the hips of the elderly when they fall. While the HipSaver underwear is quite appropriate for the constantly at risk person, because they are undergarments, they are considered patient specific. HipSaver Interim is a 3/4-length soft fleece pant which can be stocked and used like pajamas. The distinct advantage of this hip protection system is that the institutional user can stock a small inventory and immediately respond to the needs of at-risk new admission or the changing needs of existing patients. The garments can be institution laundered, restocked and reused as needed. A permanently bonded antimicrobial finish provides an extra margin of safety.

“This product is a winner for everyone because it allows for an economical way to provide hip protection as the need arises. We have many cases where we have to ship HipSavers by “next day” air for a new admission and sometimes the patient falls and breaks their hip before the HipSavers arrive,” states Ed Goodwin, president of HipSaver.

“Having a small stock of HipSaver Interim in a facility provides a good “stop gap” insurance policy in these cases, until further evaluation of needs is completed.” HipSaver hip protectors have been biomechanically and clinically proven to prevent fall related hip fractures. The major problem in the adoption of hip protectors has been the design issues related to the acceptability of the garment and pad type. The HipSaver encapsulated soft pad achieved a 94% compliance rate in a nursing home population in a study published last September in The Journal of the American Medical Directors Association (JAMDA). The HipSaver Interim garment design, because it is patient transferable, expands the acceptability of the product to short term use situations such as acute care hospitals, rehabilitation wards, new admissions to a nursing home, or the changing risk patient.

HipSaver Interim can be purchased for as low as $34.99. More information can be obtained by calling 800-358-4477 or visiting http://www.hipsaver.com/
