HealthPartners Earns Top 5 Health Plan Status By National Committee

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Best-in-state ratings in customer service, communication between physician and patient, courtesy of clinic staff and ratings of specialists helped HealthPartners earn top-five health plan status for the second year in the West North Central Region from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The region includes Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. No other local health plan made the cut.

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization that accredits and certifies health care organizations across the United States. The HealthPartners rating is based on the Consumer Assessment of Health Plan Study results and overall clinical outcomes of its members.

“Minnesotans have access to some of the best health care in the nation,” said Mary Brainerd, president and chief executive officer, HealthPartners. “The ratings show that consumers are receiving care that is timely, effective and tailored towards their health care needs.”

HealthPartners was among the best in the nation for members in several rated conditions.

 -- 100 percent of all members who had a heart attack received Beta Blocker treatment after the heart attack -- 90 percent of women at risk for cervical cancer were screened -- For those at risk of breast cancer, 87 percent were screened -- More than 97 percent of members who needed prenatal and postpartum care received the proper care, and -- Over 75 percent of members with depression symptoms were identified and over 60 percent who received medication continued their medications after the first six months. 

HealthPartners also made many improvements that exceeded the national average including:

 -- 81 percent of members reported getting the care they needed and getting it quickly -- HealthPartners received and overall health plan rating of 63 percent -- More than 88 percent of claims were processed accurately and timely In addition, HealthPartners showed marked improvement in: -- Depression treatment -- Adolescent immunizations -- Chlamydia screening -- Children’s access to primary care -- Controlling high blood pressure and cholesterol with Medicare members HealthPartners
