LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthCare Partners Medical Group was named among the top 10 physician groups in Southern California (including Los Angeles through San Diego) by the Integrated Healthcare Association on October 6, 2005. The selection of the top 10 groups was based on the provision of recommended care, patient satisfaction and investment in information technologies (IT) that support quality care. The selection was made from 225 medical groups participating in the Pay for Performance (P4P) program that covers the performance of over 35,000 physicians in the medical groups.
Robert Margolis, MD, CEO of HealthCare Partners, who is currently serving as Chairman of the Board of the National Council on Quality Assurance (NCQA), noted that "Performance measurement and pay-for-performance are important in advancing the cause of quality health care delivery. We are pleased to be included among the top 10 medical groups. Advancing the cause of quality care is in everyone's best interest."
Don Crane, President and CEO of the California Association of Physician Groups, said, "These groups, operating in an organized and integrated model, have distinguished themselves and raised the bar for other physician practices in California. By investing in information technologies that improve care and physician decision-making, they are better able to deliver preventive and chronic care services to their patients, who are clearly satisfied with the care they are receiving."
HealthCare Partners, like all selected medical groups, received the maximum rating for qualifying IT activities, including using clinical data to manage its patient populations and using technology to support physician decision-making during patient interactions. The P4P measures -- and others -- are used by the Office of the Patient Advocate to rate California medical groups for consumers. Ratings can be viewed on-line at www.opa.ca.gov.
The other top 10 rated physician groups in Southern California included Los Angeles based groups Cedars-Sinai Health Associates, Cedars-Sinai Medical Group, Pioneer Medical Group, Inc., and UCLA Medical Group. In Orange County, Edinger Medical Group and Greater Newport Physicians Medical Group were included. In San Diego, Scripps Mercy Medical Group, Sharp Mission Park Medical Group and the Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers were selected.
