WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Assessment Lab (HAL), under the leadership of John E. Ware, Jr., Ph.D., today announced the appointment of George L. Adler, Ph.D. as Executive Director, charged with evaluating a new strategic focus for HAL, including the possible establishment of a research and development center that could focus on the application of state-of-the-art patient-reported outcome (PRO) surveys across clinical research and practice settings in health care. Dr. Adler assumes the challenge with over 17 years experience in executive level positions and with a Ph.D. and an MS in Industrial Engineering from New York University, and a BME from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The appointment of Dr. Adler comes at a critical juncture in the evolution of PRO measurement, with the potential for HAL to:
* Foster the development and standardization of PRO measures and their translation and adaptation for use in international research * Promote applications of new computerized adaptive testing (CAT) software for more efficient surveys * Offer education and training regarding advancements in psychometrics and CAT
“Dr. Adler brings the rare combination of statistical and technology expertise with hands-on operations and management experience that will no doubt enable him to lead HAL during this exciting growth period,” stated Dr. Ware.
Dr. Adler’s responsibilities include fostering relationships and collaborations with clinical thought leaders and developing/implementing a strategic business plan. “For HAL to recognize its vision and mission, it is incumbent on us to clearly define our relationship with the Medical Outcomes Trust (MOT) and QualityMetric Incorporated, key partners in the advancement of PRO measurement in health care,” commented Dr. Adler.
From 1991 to 1998, Dr. Adler was CIO and Vice President of Information Services at Children’s Hospital in Boston. His accomplishments included stabilizing information services, creating an effective organizational structure, developing the hospital’s first strategic plan for information services and implementing new and improved services.
In addition, Dr. Adler was a member of the faculty at the Massachusetts General Institute for Health Professions where he taught Statistics. He was an adjunct faculty member at Bentley College where he taught Operations Management, and while at Children’s Hospital he held a faculty appointment at Harvard University.
