Nantes, France, June 14, 2011 – EPEMED, the European Personalised Medicine Association, a European not for profit organisation bringing together global forces in personalised medicine, today announced the appointment of Prof. Christian Bréchot, MD, PhD, as a new member of its Board of Directors.

Christian’s broad and rare experience both in the academic field and in the industry as well as his vision will considerably strengthen the actions of EPEMED’s board of directors”, emphasized Alain Huriez, MD, EPEMED founder and chairman.

Christian Bréchot is currently Vice President at Institut Merieux where he is in charge of Medical and Scientific affairs. Prior to this position he acted as General Director of INSERM, the French National Agency for biomedical research. Previous positions include Professor of Cell Biology and Hepatology, Head of the clinical department of liver diseases at the Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, Head of a research unit at the Necker Faculty of Medicine, Paris Descartes University, and the Pasteur Institute and Head of the National Reference Centre on viral hepatitis.
Prof. Bréchot holds MD and PhD degrees, has been the member of numerous scientific committees and societies and has received a number of prestigious awards in the field. He is the author of over 350 articles published in medical and scientific journals. His research activities have led him to obtain numerous patents and to contribute to the creation of two biotech companies.
