Dr. Michael Cowan Joins BearingPoint’s Health Services Practice

MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BearingPoint, Inc. , a leading global management and technology consulting firm, today announced that Michael L. Cowan, M.D., has joined the Company’s Health Services practice.

Serving as Chief Medical Officer for Health Services, part of BearingPoint’s Public Services group, Dr. Cowan will work with BearingPoint executives to strengthen the Company’s public-health consulting capabilities. In this capacity he will lead the development of new service offerings as well as provide advice in the strategic recruitment and development of key practitioners. Dr. Cowan will also be responsible for leading BearingPoint’s thought leadership in the healthcare and social services markets.

Dr. Cowan has extensive executive experience within the healthcare industry, both in the private and public sectors. Previously, Dr. Cowan served as senior vice president for Healthcare Solutions at Oracle Corporation, where he led their strategic solutions practice for public and private sector healthcare in North America. Prior to joining Oracle, Dr. Cowan had a distinguished career with the U.S. Navy, where most recently he served as its 34th Surgeon General.

Dr. Cowan has also been a leading force for innovations in information technology throughout his career, leading and directing the development and implementation of several programs including Tricareonline, Navy Medicine Online, the Worldwide Pharmacy Transaction Data Base, and the TRICARE Unified Enrollment Database.

Dr. Cowan earned his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis and completed his postgraduate training at Bethesda Naval Medical Center. He is certified by the American College of Physician Executives as a Certified Physician Executive and was recognized by the American Medical Association as its AMA Outstanding Federal Health Executive of the Year in 1999.
