BALTIMORE, July 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- XLHealth, owner of one of the nation’s largest Medicare chronic condition special needs plans and a leader in improving the quality of care for seniors with chronic illness, today announced the appointment of John R. Mach, Jr., M.D., to chief medical officer effective August 1, 2009.
Prior to his appointment at XLHealth, Dr. Mach served as chairman and CEO of United HealthCare’s Evercare healthplans, the business unit that owns and manages all of United’s Medicare special needs plans. While at United HealthCare, Dr. Mach also served as chief medical officer of United HealthCare’s Ovations subsidiary, the largest company in the United States dedicated to meeting the health and well-being of people age 50 and older.
As chief medical officer for XLHealth and its Care Improvement Plus Medicare plans, Dr. Mach will be responsible for all clinical program development, medical management and quality improvement efforts within XLHealth. His broad experience as a practicing physician and health plan executive will help XLHealth to continue to provide innovative approaches to support physicians and coordinate the care of chronically ill patients.

Prior to joining the VA, Dr. Mach was in private practice as a primary care internist in the Twin Cities.
Dr. Mach is a frequent speaker on the needs of the chronically ill in Medicare and a recognized leader in the appropriate medical management of special needs Medicare beneficiaries.
