ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Diabetes Association will present the Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Diabetes Research Award to David M. Nathan, MD. This award was established to recognize outstanding contributions in patient-oriented clinical outcomes research that have had a significant impact on diabetes prevention and treatment. Dr. Nathan will be recognized with this honor at the Association’s 75th Scientific Sessions®, taking place June 5-9, 2015, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston.
Currently Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Clinical Research Center and of the Diabetes Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Nathan is an internationally recognized expert on diabetes and its treatment and complications.
Dr. Nathan served as an architect of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) and continues to co-chair its long-term follow up, DCCT/EDIC. He is Chair of the NIH Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and the Glycemia Reduction Approaches in Diabetes: A Comparative Effectiveness (GRADE) Study. As such, his contributions have had a tremendous impact on diabetes research and care throughout the world.
His body of work comprises more than 500 publications, chapters and books. Dr. Nathan is especially lauded for his support and guidance of colleagues, and, in particular, of junior investigators.
