Melbourne, Tuesday, 3 July 2012. Consegna Group (ASX: CGP) today announced the development of a new Elite Sports product in its BreatheAssist technology portfolio.
BreatheAssist is a nasal dilator that increases airflow. The elite sports product is designed specifically for athletes competing at the highest level internationally.
The device, a variant of the Consegna BreatheAssist technology, has been specifically developed with lightweight polymers to increase airflow and maintain a high level of comfort, fit and feel during exercise. The design of the BreatheAssist Elite Sports follows a period of in-market testing with some of the world’s leading sportspeople.
Dr Nick Ede Chief Technology Officer said: “We’ve had the opportunity to work closely in the development of this product with some of the world’s elite athletes in the UK and Australia.”
“Australian cyclist Mark O’Brien is currently using the BreatheAssist Elite Sports product in the Cycling Australia Subaru National Road Series which he’s currently leading. His experience has been valuable in fine tuning the device and demonstrating its effectiveness with elite athletes.”
Mark races for the Budget Forklifts team and is currently the Subaru National Road Series leader having won the last two tours, the tour of Toowoomba and the Santos North Western Tour, while wearing the BreatheAssist Elite Sports device. Mark said: “Working closely with the team at Consegna has been a really positive experience. Rarely do you get the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of a leading edge technology and the experience has been very rewarding, particularly as I’ve been able to test the device in my racing and achieved great results.”
Consegna believes the market for BreatheAssist Elite Sports goes beyond professional athletes, with amateur and social sport participants likely to benefit from the device. Given the successful results and athlete experience, the BreatheAssist Elite Sports product is advancing to final clinical trials to expand the positive body of evidence to support this product in the market.
The BreatheAssist technology is a multi-application platform that enables a range of product offerings including potential application in sleep apnoea, snoring, disorders associated with a deviated septum, delivery of medicaments, for odour masking purposes, dust and pollen filtration and enhancing sports performance. The two most advanced applications are for the snoring and sleep markets.
Fabio Pannuti Consegna CEO concluded: “The monetisation of the BreatheAssist technology has now reached a significant stage. The confirmation of our regulatory pathway, identification of a commercial scale production process and feedback from consumers and athletes of the calibre of Mark O’Brien, has triggered a great deal of interest from commercial partners. We are on track to deliver an outcome for shareholders.”
