Coalition For Medicare Choices Touts Better Benefits Under Medicare Advantage In Town Hall Meeting

BRISTOL, Pa., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- For the past several years, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and the Coalition for Medicare Choices have worked together with members of Congress and two administrations to preserve Medicare and to provide better benefits for Medicare beneficiaries. The Coalition’s 250,000 beneficiary members spread across 41 states, work toward positive change in the Medicare system, united by a common desire to protect the health care choices and benefits provided by health plans offered through the Medicare Advantage program.

This year, the Coalition for Medicare Choices will continue its efforts in reaching out to Members of Congress to remind them that the Medicare Modernization Act charts the right course for Medicare by providing more choices so that Medicare beneficiaries can choose the health care delivery system that is best for them. Medicare Advantage plans continue to offer beneficiaries better benefits and lower out-of-pocket costs, while at the same time delivering comprehensive coverage and higher quality.

In Bristol today, Coalition members joined together to send a clear message to Washington, reminding Congress to maintain the better benefits and choices available in Medicare Advantage health plans and to say “Thank You!” to their champions in Congress who have worked hard over the years to improve and preserve health care choices for America’s Medicare beneficiaries. In addition, health care organizations offered free preventative health screenings to attendees of the town hall meeting.

The Coalition for Medicare Choices has declared the Honorable James Greenwood of the 8th district of Pennsylvania a champion and honors him today with the 2004 Medicare Choices Leadership Award. At a town hall meeting that served as an educational forum for beneficiaries to learn about the new options available to them since the passage of the Medicare Modernization Act, AHIP presented Congressman Greenwood with this award.

“Congressman Greenwood continues to fight for access to better choices, better benefits for Medicare beneficiaries,” said Karen Ignagni, President and CEO of AHIP. “We commend Mr. Greenwood for his unwavering commitment to Medicare Advantage health plans and the beneficiaries they serve in his district.”
