MIDLAND, Mich., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Judy Anderson and Dr. Stephanie A. Burns have been named to co-chair an advisory group at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. The Council will play a key role in the upcoming $2.1 million expansion project for the Center for Women's Health that will merge the latest in imaging technology with a comforting, serene environment. Prevention, screening, diagnostic and education services will be centralized all in one location on the Medical Center's campus when completed.

Anderson has volunteered with the Medical Center for 24 years holding various leadership positions including president of the Auxiliary. In 1998 she was awarded life membership in the Auxiliary. Anderson is currently vice chairman of the Medical Center's Development Committee and is a member of the Medical Center's board.

"This is a cause that is very close and dear to me," said Anderson. "I look forward to being a part of this exciting project that will positively impact so many lives in this community and beyond."

Dr. Burns is Dow Corning's president and chief executive officer and serves on several national, regional and community boards. This is Dr. Burns' first formal involvement with the Medical Center.

"I am pleased to be part of such a forward-thinking endeavor," Dr. Burns said. "Having women only go one place to receive services for breast care will enhance convenience, comfort as well as optimize the medical care that they will receive. Since one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer sometime in their life, I feel passionately about the importance of this effort."

Other members of the Center for Women's Health Advisory Council are Bobbie Arnold, Pamela Boundy, Carole Calvert-Baxter, Sheree Clark, M.D., Wendy Fischer, Pamela Gifford, Gwen Lang, Beth Carras Lewis, Laura LoFiego, Donna Rapp, Carlene Skorczewski and Brenda Sorenson.

Set to break ground this spring, the current Center for Women's Health facility will more than double in size increasing from the existing 4,900 sq. ft. to 13,400 sq. ft. The new space will include the addition of two separate reading rooms for the radiologists, a stereotactic biopsy room with diagnostic mammography, three exam rooms, a treatment room and a multidisciplinary case- conferencing and education space.

Construction is slated to be completed this fall with an open house tentatively planned for October to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness month. Those interested in more information may visit MidMichigan's Web site at http://www.midmichigan.org/donations/whw .
