ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2003--Boston based Cambridge Isotope Laboratories, the world's largest stable isotope company, has completed the expansion of its Oxygen-18 distillation facility at its site in Xenia, Ohio. The expanded plant produces 250 Kg per year of 18O used for the production of FDG in the PET industry and in other medical research. The plant is expected to be fully compliant with cGMP in the first quarter of 2004, and will be the only fully cGMP compliant plant in the world.
The plant is designed to distill 18O 95% water from natural abundance and is also capable of re-enriching 18O water that has been reduced in enrichment after use in F-18 cyclotron production. In addition, CIL has the capability to enrich 18O to 99%.
CIL has been producing 18O water for the PET community since 1996.
