AUSTIN, Texas, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- WholeSecurity, the leading provider of behavioral, on-demand endpoint security solutions, today announced that Cambridge Health Alliance (the Alliance), a nationally recognized academic public healthcare system, has selected WholeSecurity’s Confidence Online(TM) Enterprise Edition to protect PCs against malicious threats, like worms, Trojan horses, and other eavesdropping programs.
Due to the sensitive and highly confidential nature of patient information stored on their networks, it is critical for healthcare providers to take steps to ensure the security of their data. Adding to this challenge, healthcare organizations are rapidly adopting new technologies, such as SSL VPNs, to provide doctors and partner associations with anytime, anywhere access to data. While remote access to the network makes it easier for doctors, employees, and partners to share information, it also makes ensuring a high level of security more challenging as users can enter the network using any computer, which may or may not be properly secured. With Confidence Online, the Alliance can safeguard all of the computers accessing their network, including those they do not own or manage, from eavesdropping threats and worms. These malicious programs can enable electronic theft of information and cause costly business disruptions.
The Alliance initially implemented Confidence Online on several thousand desktop systems in the LAN, choosing the always-on deployment option to guarantee round-the-clock protection. They are currently in the process of deploying an SSL VPN solution from Juniper Networks, which is seamlessly integrated with the on-demand version of Confidence Online. By combining these technologies, the Alliance can ensure that thousands of doctors and partner employees have secure remote access to medical resources and information without the fear of eavesdropping or remote control threats.
“Confidence Online accelerated the implementation of our SSL VPN by assuaging our fears regarding eavesdropping and split tunneling,” said Daniel Cameron, Cambridge Health Alliance’s Exchange/Internet/Intranet engineer. “As a light-weight solution, Confidence Online delivers a high level of security without impacting our users’ experience or productivity. The software offers a low cost of management, while giving us greater insight into the threats in our environment. We were pleased to find a comprehensive solution for both LAN and remote access users.”
To deliver zero-hour protection against known and unknown malicious threats, Confidence Online uses a revolutionary behavioral detection method proven by third-party testing to be more reliable and effective than signature-based solutions. Customers running Confidence Online benefited from zero-hour protection against recent attacks, such as Sasser, Netsky, Bagle, and MyDoom -- without having to install or update signatures. For Cambridge Health Alliance, implementing this behavioral detection at the desktop level has proved a significant cost savings.
“Following best practices for security, we diligently deployed anti-virus software throughout the network,” added Cameron. “However, we still found ourselves spending hundreds of hours battling worms that easily bypassed these measures. With Confidence Online, we now have the zero-hour protection we need without having to worry about implementing signature updates and patches as soon as a new threat is announced.”
WholeSecurity also announced today that additional healthcare providers, including Wake Radiology, are using Confidence Online to secure endpoint PCs.
WholeSecurity will be exhibiting at the Gartner Security Summit, June 7-9, in Washington, D.C.
