Brockton Hospital Turns To HealthShare Technology To Analyze Quality And Efficiency Of Care

BOSTON, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthShare Technology today announced that Brockton Hospital, a community-based teaching hospital serving more than 20 communities in Southeastern Massachusetts, will implement HealthShare Internet software tools to perform internal analyses, create objective benchmarks for excellent care, and identify opportunities for quality improvement.

HealthShare’s analysis tools use a hospital’s own data to study cost, quality and profitability across the organization, while also enabling analysis of hospital cost and quality of care performance compared to similar organizations. These tools allow hospitals to gauge and adjust how they stand competitively against their peers while improving internal clinical and business performance.

“Our goal is to make sure Brockton Hospital stays ahead of the curve and becomes the hospital of choice when it comes to evaluation based on quality and cost,” said Chris Brown, vice president of managed care for Brockton Hospital. “Increasingly, health plans are looking at hospitals’ competitive information to make sure the best and most efficient institutions are part of their network. As an added benefit of implementing these innovative products, we hope to improve the hospital’s profitability by reducing the cost of delivering high-quality care.”

“Brockton Hospital is an industry frontrunner in proactively analyzing its performance to better meet the needs of health plans and patients,” said Rick Siegrist, president and CEO of HealthShare Technology. “In today’s consumer- driven healthcare environment, it is essential for hospitals and physicians to constantly evaluate themselves against both internal and external benchmarks to enhance their quality of care, manage costs and understand their competitive market position.”

Brockton Hospital is working closely with both physicians and administrators to ensure that the tools’ benefits and value are fully realized. The hospital expects to go live with implementation in mid-August 2004.
