Bio-G presents Operational Excellence analysis at Europe’s Bioinnovation Leaders Summit

BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA – Rick Johnston, Ph.D. of Bio-G (Bioproduction Group) is featured at the 2009 Bioinnovation Leaders Summit June 8-9, 2009 London, England.

Rick addressed the attendees on Monday, June 8, and presented Bio-G’s advanced toolsets for Operational Excellence, showing case studies and identifying key areas for performance improvement. During the talk some of the key ‘unanswered’ questions in biopharmaceutical manufacturing were highlighted, with a greater focus on variability as a key common theme across the entire industry. Rick underlined that variability is seen throughout the entire supply chain – from individual manufacturing unit operations to highly aggregated yearly demand estimates: “We show how accurate modeling of the effects of this variability is of vital importance in manufacturing, comparing the ‘cost of getting it wrong’ across a number of different metrics.” Case studies are presented showing how variability can be managed; the effect of accurate plant modeling (incorporating variability) on making better decisions and how dealing with this issue will result in immediate cost savings to customers.

Bio-G’s toolset drew considerable interest from the crowd, especially in the ability to give quantitative analysis of bottlenecks and target-set areas of improvement.

The annual Bioinnovation Leaders Summit is the leading annual biological manufacturing meeting for industry leaders and strategists. It is the only 2-day gathering dedicated to both upstream and downstream processing.
