VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMERIGROUP Corporation today announced that three experienced healthcare executives have joined the Company in top management positions: Timothy P. Fitzgerald will serve as Senior Vice President, Healthcare Delivery Systems; Peter D. Haytaian, Esq., as President and CEO of AMERIGROUP New Jersey, Inc.; and Sean T. Monaghan, FSA, as Senior Vice President, Financial Actuarial Services.

Fitzgerald began work as Senior Vice President, Healthcare Delivery Systems, on December 19. He leads medical network contracting and healthcare provider relations and will report to Richard C. Zoretic, Executive Vice President, Health Plan Operations. Prior to joining AMERIGROUP, he served as an independent healthcare consultant and as Senior Vice President of Health Care Delivery for Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield in New York. He also held a variety of positions, including Regional Managed Care Officer and General Manager with CIGNA Healthcare's Mid-Atlantic region.
Haytaian began serving as President and CEO of AMERIGROUP New Jersey, Inc., in September and reports to Steven B. Larsen, Esq., Senior Vice President, Health Plan Operations. He previously was Vice President of Government Programs and Specialty Businesses for Oxford Health Plans, Inc., where he oversaw that company's Medicare managed care programs, commercial products and new market expansions. Prior to that he was an attorney who specialized in healthcare and regulatory issues for the firm of Graham, Curtin and Sheridan. Haytaian holds a degree in marketing and communications from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. and a law degree from Saint John's University School of Law.
Monaghan assumed the position of Senior Vice President, Financial Actuarial Services, on January 3. He will direct all activities related to medical accruals, modeling and forecasting and will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Sherri E. Lee. Monaghan most recently served as Director of Medical Economics for M-Care, a managed care organization owned by the University of Michigan. He previously was a Principal at William M. Mercer Inc., an actuarial consulting firm, and a Senior Consultant for The Wyatt Company. Monaghan is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and holds degrees in physics and computer science from Wayne State University.
