Insulin manufacturer Aventis has confirmed that its Insuman Rapid 15 vials and Insuman Comb 15 vials have been withdrawn.Debbie Hammond, Care Adviser at Diabetes UK, commented: “Diabetes UK are concerned that these withdrawals of certain presentations of Insuman will limit the choice of people with diabetes as to their method of administering their insulin. People affected by the changes should discuss with their healthcare team about the use of different systems that are available to provide their usual insulin."Insuman Comb 50 vials and Insuman 15 cartridges are also due to be withdrawn in August and September respectively. Aventis has assured Diabetes UK that it has no plans to withdraw any further insulin lines, including its long-acting analogue Lantus. Aventis has decided to discontinue the four presentations due to low demand for them within the United Kingdom in order to concentrate on the production of more widely used lines.
