SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 3, 2013—Aspera, Inc., creators of next-generation software technologies that move the world’s large data at maximum speed, today announced that president, CEO and co-founder Michelle Munson has received CloudNOW’s Top 10 Women In Cloud Award. Michelle was presented the award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the cloud community by CloudNOW, an executive consortium of the leading women in cloud computing, at UBM Tech’s Cloud Connect event in Santa Clara, California.
Michelle will be sharing her expertise on a panel at the NAB Show, organized by the National Association of Broadcasters, at a super session on ‘Digital Disruption: Unleashing the next wave of innovation’ on Tuesday April 9 in Las Vegas. “CloudNOW is proud to pay tribute to ten extraordinary women in cloud computing for their remarkable accomplishments and thought leadership in our dynamic industry,” said Jocelyn DeGance Graham, founder of CloudNOW. “Michelle serves as an inspiration to others in the field.”
Michelle is co-inventor of Aspera’s fasp™ high-speed data transport technology, which has enabled the cloud for big data, allowing all kinds of organizations—from media leaders to life science innovators—to leverage the cloud’s many benefits. Aspera’s on-demand cloud solutions eliminate the bottlenecks of conventional transport technologies (FTP and HTTP), enabling file sets of any size and type to be transferred to, from and throughout the cloud at line speed with comprehensive security and content access control through a novel distributed software architecture. This technology is enabling cloud adoption for content transfer, sharing and workflows for companies that depend on large data. “It’s an honor to receive this award alongside all these other pioneers of cloud computing,” said Michelle. “Cloud computing is transforming the way companies operate and we’re very proud to be playing a key role in that.”
Other recipients of this year’s awards include Manjula Talreja, vice president of global cloud business development at Cisco and Margaret Dawson, vice president of product marketing and cloud evangelist at HP. Previous winners include Padmasree Warrior, CTO at Cisco, Lauren States, CTO of cloud computing at IBM, and Jamie Erbes, cloud labs director and fellow at HP.
Michelle will be speaking at NAB alongside panelists from Akamai, IBM and BitTorrent on the key disruptions that will take place in the media and entertainment industry, how companies can exploit these disruptions, and what it takes to be a digital disruptor. In particular the panel will examine the role of big data and how disruptions from this evolving trend can lead to pathways of great innovation. Moderated by James McQuivey of Forrester, the session will take place at 4pm on April 9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
This week at the NAB Show in Las Vegas (booth #SL9716) and Bio-IT World Conference & Expo in Boston (booth #234), Michelle and the Aspera team will be demonstrating the latest versions of Aspera On Demand for high-speed transfer to, from, and across cloud infrastructure, and will introduce the new Aspera Drive with Faspex 4.0, a unified platform for file-based collaboration using desktop, web, and mobile apps seamlessly across cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
