Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Laying Off 60 Pct of Work Force

Business Courier of Cincinnati -- Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals is reorganizing and laying off 60 percent of its work force.

A spokeswoman for the company said Northern Kentucky-based Xanodyne is not disclosing how many employees that amounts to or how many the company employs across its operations.

"The reduction in force will have a lesser impact on Kentucky," said Janet Barth. The company also houses employees in New Jersey and has a sales force that is spread across the country.

Xanodyne markets a portfolio of products that includes prescription pain management pharmaceuticals and a line of prenatal vitamins. In November 2009, the company announced that an expanded sales force of 250 employees would support the U.S. launch of its Zipsor pain relief medication.

Barth said employees were notified of layoffs starting yesterday and continuing Wednesday. She said the company does not expect the reorganization to involve the closure of offices.

"The strategy is they want to reshape the organization for a more longer-term strategy, look to contain overall operating costs, and they want for the longer term to be more profitable," Barth said.

Xanodyne has announced a series of changes over the past few months. Here's a look at some past coverage from the Business Courier.
