Okamoto will report to the audit committee of the Tyco board of directors. She succeeds Rick Baran, who has taken the position of chief financial officer for Earth Tech -- a business unit of Tyco's Engineered Products & Services division.

"Noriko brings a legal background, as well as knowledge of our businesses, to a role that is critical in instituting and maintaining the highest standards of integrity across Tyco. This position is essential to our success in sustaining a strong culture of accountability at the company."
Prior to being named ombudsman, Okamoto was assistant general counsel at Tyco Electronics, where she was responsible for supporting Tyco Telecommunications' undersea fiber optic network supply business and Tyco Electronics Power Systems micro-power group. She joined Tyco from AT&T, where she served as an attorney in its western region office and as a senior attorney in its International Law Group. Prior to that, Okamoto was an associate with Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine in Los Angeles, California.
Okamoto earned her law degree at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and her bachelor's degree from Vassar College.
