Syrris Simplifies Complex Data Analysis

Royston, UK (15th January 2010) – Syrris, a leading chemistry automation product innovator, has introduced the Atlas Reporting Software to enable easy graphical analysis of sophisticated log files generated by the Atlas Base Unit, Atlas Software or Atlas Syringe Pump. Graphs can be created in seconds using the Wizard style software, which incorporates an easy-to-use, “drag and drop” interface. Compatible with a range of Atlas products, the Reporting Software facilitates the fast analysis of resulting data for increased laboratory efficiency.

Log files from Atlas modules and other software are uploaded using a USB stick to the Reporting Software enabling graphs to be created, customized and printed, quickly and easily. Multiple files can be imported simultaneously, allowing various parameters from different experiments, such as temperature, pH, stirrer speed, flow rate and turbidity to be plotted on the same graph for comprehensive batch-to-batch analysis.

The cost-effective Reporting Software can also display comments added by the user during the experiment, further increasing its usability. A line on the graph indicates when the comment was added, demonstrating correlations between any observations and the data.

In addition, the Reporting Software allows log files generated by the Atlas Calorimetry Software to be interpreted quickly and easily. The software enables fast and effective analysis of the thermal properties of the reaction with the click of a button. Furthermore, it imports raw data and automatically corrects for the sensible heat of addition and changes in UA. Graphs of reaction power, reaction enthalpy, overall process enthalpy, and sensible heat of addition are all automatically displayed alongside other process data, such as additions.

Syrris Limited

Established in 2001, Syrris Limited is one of the fastest growing science SMEs in the UK employing over 30 scientists and engineers at its facility in Royston (near Cambridge). Founders Mark Gilligan and Richard Gray come from a background of developing automation products for chemists at companies such as The Technology Partnership (TTP) and Mettler Toledo.

Syrris develops laboratory automation products for chemists such as the Atlas automated chemistry systems. Atlas can be configured into a wide range of different systems including Lithium and Sodium for round bottom flasks (magnetically and overhead stirred respectively) and Potassium for jacketed vessels. Other Atlas systems, designed for specific applications, including calorimetry, volumetric dosing, gravimetric dosing, pH, etc, are also available.

Syrris also specialise in flow reactors for R&D chemists, including FRX: a low cost flow chemistry system and Africa (Automated Flow Reaction Incubation and Control Apparatus): a modular system for library synthesis, aqueous work-up and reaction optimization that will ultimately reduce the time taken to develop, synthesize, screen and review a chemical entity, thus vastly speeding up the drug discovery process.

In recognition of its technological achievements, Syrris has been awarded a prestigious UK DTI SMART Exceptional Grant. Syrris has also won a significant DTi MNT (Micro and Nano Technology) award which has been used to establish a new subsidiary called The Dolomite Centre Ltd. This company is focused on design and fabrication of Microfluidic devices for a wide range of applications.
