Expanding Orthopedics Inc. to Present Clinical Results of its Six Months Follow-up Study on Patients Treated With its XPED Expanding Pedicle Screw System at the IMAST Meeting

OR AKIVA, Israel, July 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Expanding Orthopedics Inc., a medical device company developing innovative solutions for spinal care, announced today that Dr. Keynan will be presenting six months follow-up results of its XPED Expanding Pedicle Screw System at the IMAST Conference.

Expanding Orthopedics Inc. is pleased to announce that the results of its clinical study with the XPED Expanding Pedicle Screw System will be presented at IMAST Conference. Dr. Keynan's e-poster "Six months follow-up of patients after lumbar fusion surgery using a new expandable pedicle screw system; a prospective study" will be presented at the Scoliosis Research Society 19th International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques in Istanbul, July 18-21, 2012.

Dr. Ory Keynan, Head of Service for Degenerative and Age-related Spinal Disorders at the Sourasky Medical Center, Tel-Aviv, Israel, explained that "enhanced fixation of spinal implants is crucial to improve spine fusion success rates, particularly in revision surgeries, bone pathologies with compromised bone quality and in elderly patients." Dr. Keynan said that "During the last 12 months, we have collected clinical information from 10 patients. In all cases successful implantation and deployment of the expandable section was achieved and no implant-related complications were observed. At 6 months follow-up, improvement was observed in all outcome measures."

Dr. Keynan noted that "these positive results were confirmed at the 12 months follow-up visit: VAS improving by 60%, ODI by 32% and SF36 by 69%. The VAS and ODI scores obtained with the XPED were significantly better than the control group consisting of patients treated with standard screws." Dr. Keynan added that "the results suggest that immediate stability obtained with the XPED at the fusion site may provide early pain reduction with improved clinical outcomes when compared to standard pedicle screws."

Mr. Ofer Bokobza, CEO of Expanding Orthopedics, said that "we are thrilled that a very well respected spine research society as the Scoliosis Research Society, has accepted to present the clinical results of our XPED Expanding Pedicle Screw System for the first time at an international spine congress." Mr. Bokobza confirmed that "a growing number of surgeons in Europe and Israel are starting to adopt the XPED system and believe that these positive clinical results will encourage the medical community to adopt the XPED System as the standard of care for specific indications and pathologies."
