Biocom Partners with City of STEM Science Festival in Los Angeles County

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Biocom, the association representing the life science industry of California, today announced program details regarding its participation in the City of STEM Science Festival, presented in Los Angeles by the Columbia Memorial Space Center and its partners. A month-long event that began on April 1 and continues through April 30, the Festival is a community-focused celebration of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) composed of numerous events for all ages taking place throughout Los Angeles County.
“Los Angeles is a region of great innovation, where groundbreaking discoveries occur in academia, industry and research institutes on a daily basis,” said Joe Panetta, president and CEO of Biocom. “In partnering with City of STEM, we’re celebrating a powerful community and national force in STEM research, as illustrated by the $1 billion in NIH funding Los Angeles received in 2017.”
Biocom’s Los Angeles Executive Director, Dina Lozofsky, who serves on the LA City Workforce Development Board and co-chairs LAEDC’s Bioscience Workforce Development Council, is bringing Biocom’s experience in building robust community events focused on STEM to bear.
“For the last decade, Biocom has produced one of the West Coast’s largest Festivals of Science and Engineering, taking place in San Diego,” said Ms. Lozofsky. “Now, in bringing our experience to this extraordinary event in Los Angeles, we’re aiming to help the Columbia Memorial Space Center ignite the imagination of the future doctors, researchers and CEOs who will be leading the STEM community of tomorrow.”
