MedAptus Releases Enhanced Point-Of-Care Dictation Solution

SALT LAKE CITY, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- MedAptus today announced that it has released version 5.5 of its digital dictation offering. Leveraging the sound capture capabilities of HP iPAQ PocketPC(TM) devices, MedAptus' dictation untethers busy and on-the-go physicians from traditional telephony-based systems. This latest version has the added benefit of allowing physicians to review on-screen patient visit, clinical and charge data during dictation.

Boston-based MedAptus delivers point-of-care solutions that improve the revenue cycle, connecting a healthcare organization's financial goals to physicians' clinical needs and the well-being of patients. The MedAptus flagship application is electronic charge capture, practice-proven to improve compliance and increase revenue.

As an integrated component of the MedAptus point-of-care solution suite, the dictation module is fully integrated with charge capture; the two applications utilize a common patient schedule as the pick-list. From a main patient encounter screen, physicians can commence dictation or charge entry via a single tap of the stylus.

Version 5.5 also provides physicians a list of over 20 work types to choose from. Each has an associated and configurable template that displays its specific components and thus helps support the capture of thorough documentation. Additionally, patient data can be reviewed during the dictation process to ensure the encounter is fully documented. And though MedAptus' dictation utilizes wireless connectivity to transmit completed dictations from the physician's device to the practice's transcription service, users are able to record in non-connected locations as well.

"Our close integration of dictation with charge capture creates a powerful point-of-care solution that increases physicians' efficiency and also enhances documentation accuracy," noted David Delaney, MD, vice president of business development at MedAptus. "The optimal time to do documentation is immediately after the patient encounter. Previously, this often wasn't feasible in a busy practice. With our dictation, however, physicians can use the time between patients to complete both charge capture and clinical documentation. This helps improve revenue as well as prevent the dreaded stack of patient charts to dictate at 7:00 PM."

The MedAptus point-of-care solution suite additionally allows users to manage daily schedules, review and retrieve patient demographic and history information, access medical reference material, generate electronic prescriptions, order lab tests, and review results.

"Our latest version of dictation is truly comprehensive, but yet we're hearing from the field that it's also very easy to use. And while it helps streamline the documentation process, the ability for physicians to easily review patient data as they are dictating provides a tremendous quality boost," said Dennis Mitchell, president and CEO of MedAptus. "As for future product plans, we will continue to seek interoperability with additional transcription systems and services."
